Goods criss-cross the entire globe in sea containers, known in the jargon as TEUs (twenty foot equivalent unit). TEUN is a new company specializing in ‘UnLoading’ – hence the suffix ‘(U)N’ – all of these load carriers. Their first product is called PIQR, an automatic loading and unloading system for loosely stacked boxes in containers. Many containers are filled in this way in order to reduce transport costs (pallets are more expensive and take up more space). The loading and unloading of floor loaded containers is generally done by hand, which in many cases is ergonomically undesirable. The PIQR picks and palletizes boxes from containers entirely automatically. Thanks to a vision system, the machine is self-supported and can work unmanned. The PIQR can also wrap and label the stacked pallets. The first version of this system is designed for containers with 3 – 5 different types of items. In addition to loading and unloading, the PIQR also renders other manual actions unnecessary because it is packed with software that can also read barcodes and scan serial numbers.
